There are many reasons why Dr Herman may suggest teeth need to be crowned

Crown materials are durable, with a long life.

When is a crown or bridge suitable?

  • You have a chipped or cracked tooth
  • Over ¾ of the surface of your tooth is filled
  • Your tooth has been root-filled
  • You have teeth that have not formed to their entirety
  • You have missing teeth

In any of the above cases the strength of your tooth has been compromised, however we can restore that beautiful, healthy-looking natural smile that you deserve.

When is a crown appropriate?

Why

  • You have a chipped or cracked tooth
  • Over ¾ of the surface of your tooth is filled
  • Your tooth has been root-filled
  • You have teeth that have not formed to their entirety
  • You have missing teeth

Each of these possibilities means that the strength of your tooth has been compromised, but don’t worry, we can restore that beautiful, healthy-looking natural smile that you deserve.

How

The best way to strengthen your tooth is to build a cap over the remaining part of your tooth. This means less removal of your original teeth and a more natural look and a stronger, solid result.

Dr Herman can also have the expert laboratory team make a crown of porcelain fused to metal in the exact colour of your tooth which also mimics the shape of natural looking teeth. We essentially replace the enamel of the tooth with an artificial layer that is bonded to the remaining tooth structure.

A bridge is like having two crowns joined together. It ‘bridges’ a gap created by a missing tooth using two crowns called abutment teeth and false tooth in-between the two in order to bridge the gap. If you have a mixture of missing and damaged teeth we can remedy these issues and restore your full confidence with a beautiful and healthy new smile.

If your tooth is root-filled it will be necessary to also make a post or core of the tooth. This will rebuild the centre of the tooth which has been filled with a sterile rubber material to prevent any infection.

Porcelain and CEREC

A Modern, Superlative Treatment Method
Traditionally fillings, crowns, inlays or onlays take two appointments to complete.

  • The first appointment is necessary to prepare and take an impression of the tooth and fill it with a temporary restoration.
  • The second is to fill the temporary restoration with the permanent fixture.

With CEREC, teeth can be restored in a single appointment, rather than several visits.

We use CEREC technology to produce fast and effective Porcelain restorations for your smile…

CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) is a dental technology that allows a dental practitioner to produce a ceramic dental restoration using 3D imagery.

Innovative ceramic restorations

3D imagery and CAD/CAM technology are used to create the perfect fit model. The crown or bridge restoration is then micro milled out of special ceramic blocks, to create tooth-coloured restorations.

Crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays can be prepared, using different types of ceramic materials to restore teeth to their natural aesthetics and function.

Dr Herman takes great care in shape and colour matching the restoration to the rest of the original teeth.

As we have all equipment, materials and expertise, we can design, manufacture and install porcelain crowns on site.
